Good Morning!

Good morning to you wherever you are, whatever you are doing. Make a stop to enjoy some minutes of calm Sunday morning, without rush, without thinking what needs to be done, without planning ahead.

Notting Hill

Some photos from the trip to ... Notting Hill. Yep, one needs to use one's travel limitations to one's benefit. I was never the one to talk much about the country I live in - I could usually go on about the country I've been to for hours instead. It seems it's the time to change.. :)

So here is Notting Hill - or rather its popular Portobello Road area - in spring, when the weather is still chilly but the greenery is already in full bloom. On Saturdays Portobello Road turns into a Market, one of London's notable street markets, known for its second-hand clothes and antiques.

One of my favourite London clothes shops AllSaints Spitalfields was founded right here in Notting Hill.

Portobello market also offers a great choice of good food and is a good place for coffees - I even managed to find some sweets from the chocolate factory from my native town in the Russian shop here - can you imagine?

Spring is definitely the best season in the UK. It's climate gives the plants such a huge potential to grow - I have never seen such a variety and multitude of plants anywhere - including exotic ones - growing just like that in the middle of the street, park or passage - seemingly without any effort or help from outside. And if they do get help - they turn into magnificent gardens I will never get tired of taking pictures of. We are invited to a flower show this weekend(!), so I will definitely be posting some pictures of that soon.

Eastern Poland

Photobucket

We have just come back from the trip to Eastern Poland to visit family. It was refreshing to contemplate the beautiful nature, seeing storks build their nests, watching people observe their traditions, enjoy the slower pace of life and things done the old way.

I have brought lots of impressions and very probably a couple of extra kilos - just look at all this food! :D

Food is important for the Slavic people - it is a tradition, it is good, and you HAVE to eat! The table for a modest occasion can look like this:

Sometimes it seems amazing that Northern Poland where I live now and Eastern Poland which is about 450km away is the same country. Eastern Poland is so much more like Belarus - home! It was quite hard for me to be just 50km away from Belarus and not drop in. Borders and residence permits make life too complicated :(

And I just can't skip mentioning this cafe we stopped by in the middle of our 6 hr drive back to Gdansk - a place we visit every time we travel East. The building is an old mill which is filled with old traditional furniture (I was fascinated by old lamps and lamp-shades)...

...hand-crafted goods...

(I just had to buy this little cute pin cushion)

...and one can try lots of typical dishes from the region there.

Yet the coffee is served 'modern' :)

Red. AGAIN.

It's startling to step straight from Gdañsk's historic main street into this very modern café-bar, dominated by bright red panels, a suspended ceiling and boxy lighting. The scarlet décor contrasts with its comfy brown armchairs, from which you can sip well-made coffee.. I think I won't lie if I say that Cafe Ferber inspired me to paint the walls red in my apartment..

Red colour goes so well with soft lightning, transparent plastic furniture, big windows, chill out music, and everything else in this cafe - really. We had really very time here with my old university friend Lena, who visited on one of the gray weekends a while ago. Truly comfy, warm and cosy memories...
