Let Them Eat Cake

This movie's forte are the visuals and auditory elements evoking a powerful image of 18th-century Versailles. And the effect lingers in your head long after you've watched it. I was stunned by the intensely lush visual feast the film offers: the pomp and circumstance of ritualized and regimented 18th-century Versailles.

The private world of Marie-Antoinette, depicted through a sequence of fast-moving images of champagne-guzzling, beautifully-decorated cake-eating, and the fancy shoe buying. Some people may scoff at this 21st century world transposed to an earlier time. But as the center of the world in 18th-century Europe, Marie-Antoinette's "secret Versailles" would certainly have been as "hip" as this, and Sofia Coppola has found effective means through sound and image by which to make this poshness accessible.

For those who love to see more than read here comes the video of one of the most colourful parts of the movie and a reflection of the 18th century times slightly transposed to our modern realia:

If your life seems a bit dull all you need to do is sweeten it up a bit! Try buying some good candy and I'm sure some things will seem not as bad and complicated as before :) In one of my previous posts I mentioned this little shop of handmade candy in Gdańsk, which makes and sells candy and I thought it was worth providing some extra detail about it.

The shop is called Ciu Ciu and it is a place where candy is being produced right in front of you. So if you are interested in the whole process - just drop by this shop and there is a great possibility you will see everything with your own eyes during your first visit.

You will also be treated to some fresh candy which was just cut and is still hot and you will be surrounded by all sorts and colours imaginable of packed sweets and lollipops. TI, I especially hope that you will like this post for a reason you might be guessing already of ;)

Sweets For My Sweet..

Someone is in for a real treat today :). Don't you find this candy lovely and utterly delicious? At some point I started to regret I couldn't try these colourful little things... because they look amazingly real!

Through time and across continents, stories of sweets and their inventors intrigue and entertain us. These ones are made of coloured glass, in the best traditions of Murano glass makers. I came across this little 'candy shop' while exploring the picturesque island of Burano, where also every house has a different colour. I find these little sweets incredible - it seems they could be any imaginable colour!
