Roll Your Coaster!

I enjoy remaking things - I often have ideas related to changing the original state of objects and adding to them some personal touches. Whenever I have things which seem to be of no use anymore I like to look for their new purpose and give them a second life. I don't look to buy old and vintage things I would further remake - it would be a hard thing to find around here.. I try to pick from objects within reach, which look dull and boring and also from those, which are difficult to spoil ;) An example would be the lamp I made of a wine bottle from this post). I tried to give a bit of a makeover to some old coasters I had at home (here is how they looked before), so I cut some movie ads of some of the films I like so much - and which looked appealing - and glued them to the coaster surface. I also added some round black'n'white elements to make the coasters look a little more special and covered the coasters with acrylic lacquer to make them heat resistant. So here is the final result - I think it is quite easy to guess which movies these are:

Those are great, Olga! A really good use of simple things to create something special. Feel free to 'reuse' or 'repurpose' the things you've won in my giveaway, by the way - I have no sense that they have to stay as they are!

What you said about Agatha Christie, I would have felt myself until very recently. I read her books when I was 12 and 13, and then again when I was about 17 (amazed, at that age, how much I'd missed the first time...) Then I thought I'd had enough. However, this year a French friend passed me Murder on the Orient Express and I realised that the books do repay another reading, years later. It's hard to get hold of English books here, and I feel it's time to (slowly) begin that re-reading process. It's been a long time...

Hi Olga,
I really loved your idea of changing the original state of objects. In a way, it gives a sense of renewal as if it had just been bought. That one with "close your eyes and open your heart" I guess it has a lot to do with me. I guess I'm too much emotional and tend to feel everything almost in a disproportionate way. That's why I can cry like a silly just by watching a sad movie. I love cinema, that's one of my addictions, along with photography and travelling of course!
A big hug TI

Thank you for stopping by my blog, No my husband and I are both born here in Canada. My husbands family, however live in Gdansk. I'm not really as clever a card maker as you may think. I recently went through some family hardships with my mother and I felt I needed to get into a disciplined art form and thus the cards became a scheduled time I spent with friends making cards. If I don't scan and post them I will forget the different processes, so the blog has become a way of recording the designs. I don't often make the same thing again. I'm too easily bored. I prefer to do my own thing on the cards so the ones I posted are very stiff and regimented and not really me. But nonetheless done. It's been a wonderful experience and certainly gotten me out of my rut. I'm very interested in your creations and I was only just thinking about emailing my family in Gorzow regarding some translations. I've done a painting(which is really what I love to do) and I'd like it to be more polish than italian. The scene is a tuscanny scene and I'd like it to be more Zakopany. Do sunflowers grow in Zakopany? Talk to you soon. Do visit my other blogs.http://irenesdesk.blogspot.com/

Thank you Floss! :) I will definitely find a way to use and reuse all the beautiful stuff I won (and hopefully post about it).. I think I might try to re-read Orient Express, this is the topic I am quite interested in recently. Did you know the train still exists?!

TI - I'm always grateful for your inspiring comments. You actually picked my top favourite movie and I'm planning to post about it these days or even sooner! I think there is nothing bad in crying because of a sad film - it is great to feel and know you can care so much, not all the people can do it..
